Short Mat Bowls Group

The Short Mat Bowls season is now underway and the players are adjusting to bowling on the new mat provided with financial assistance from Foundation Scotland. The mat is shorter than its predecessor which allows it to be positioned to minimise the effect of the slopes in the Hall floor and has greatly increased the options of play open to the participants. Bowling takes place in the Hall between 5.00 and 6.00 p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon from October to March. The game is played in broadly the same way, and provides the same enjoyment and has the same attractions as lawn bowls and, indeed, many of our players participate in both games. The object is to gain as many shots as possible by getting their bowls nearer to the jack than their opponents, and so outscore them

Anyone wishing to participate will be made most welcome and tuition is available.
